WASHINGTON \u2014 President Donald Trump announced Thursday that administration officials were close to brokering an end to the hostilities with Iran and predicted there could be a signing ceremony in Europe as soon as this weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just made a great settlement of the war with Iran and we\u2019re going to be subject to finalization of documents, which should get done over the next few days, probably have a signing, maybe in Europe, and it\u2019s a great thing,\u201d Trump, who has earlier said deals were in the offing that did not come to fruition, said from the Oval Office.<\/p>\n

Trump said Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader had approved the agreement, which he referred to as \u201ca very strong memorandum of understanding that is a little conceptual.\u201d There was no immediate confirmation of the agreement on social media accounts on which Iranian leaders often post.<\/p>\n

The deal, Trump said, would ensure Iran will not be able to develop or purchase a nuclear weapon and will end the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a main oil shipping route, once signed.<\/p>\n
